[Following a productive — (productive? convincing it to to a brief stint identifying as a redheaded catgirl probably constitutes being productive, sure) — first meeting with Arche, the assembled members of the Agency are now left largely to their own devices, a little bit older and a little bit wiser, and in all likelihood probably a fair amount more confused than they were before.

After interacting with Arche, the flickering lights have all but ceased, presumably because Arche has proceeded to start...working on that, intent on doing what she can to make the facility a little more pleasant and liveable than it was before.

Following the various discussions, at least one thing seems apparent: the resident AI is having some memory loss, and is currently hard at work attempting to remedy that by searching for its missing memory cores in...well, however it is that AIs do that sort of thing, it's complicated and she probably wouldn't bore you with the specifics even if you asked.

So. That leaves a facility at your fingertips, and about eleven other people that you're apparently going to be dorm-mates with for at least the foreseeable future. Good luck with that?]

[It takes Tobias a moment to answer that as he watches the man carve, but he eventually does.]

[He shrugs, as much as he can without messing up what he's doing.]

[It's not surprising that Ginti figured that out, though. You don't usually run into birds who act just like people do.

Maybe if he's lucky he won't turn up with a starving Yeerk abandoning ship in the next couple days.]

Everybody's got secrets, it's none of my business what you do with 'em. Unless you know someone around here that can rip them out of my head - and I know a guy, but he's not here - it's not like I care enough to tell.

...I oversee a lot of high-stakes gambling. It's a feature of the bar I run, let's say. Flushes are good hands in poker - royal's as good as it gets - and when you're playing at my bar, you want to win, no matter what.

Otherwise...water's kind of my thing in general. If you're going to say you expected me to like fire more, save it, because it's not original.

[That causes him to duck his head a little, sighing inwardly.]

< I think it's safe to say she doesn't. If somebody really did move those cores to a place they aren't supposed to be, they did a good job of it. It doesn't sound like she really knows where to even start looking, either. >

Yeah, and the problem with that is we don't know if the damn cores are still in the building, so I don't know what the hell we're supposed to do about it.

< I asked her if there was anything else we could do to get to that information other than by finding the cores, but she said there wasn't. Apparently she's designed to be an information hub for this whole place, but if those cores are missing there's no other way to get to it. >

In other words: this is a wreck.

< Basically, yeah. It's the part about not being able to actually do anything about it that's bugging me. And like you said, those cores could be outside this building for all we know. >

Well, hopefully it's not planning on staying impossible for too long; my boss is probably pissed as hell right now.

< No kidding. Apparently we're not even on Earth anymore, so that's as good of an excuse of being gone as any. >

[But since Ginti is apparently also schrodinger's cat over here, he isn't sure if saying he's from Earth is going to be at all...accurate...]

It doesn't matter if it's Earth or anywhere else - we can't just decide to take some sort of vacation in the living world anytime we want!

Do we know that?! For all we know, this could be like that girl's dead cat thing!

We don't remember how or why we're here - maybe we were kidnapped or maybe it was an accident, but I don't think that's even possible for some of us, is it?! So it's not likely but for all we know, we volunteered!
